I read this awhile ago and I thought I had commented. Anyway, this is a wonderful prelude to the Foothills series. I love how much Illya cares for, but does not love, Matt.

I do remember reading this once before a long time ago. I love the undertone of the torch Illya is still carrying for Napoleon, the glimpse into the times that once were and how Illya has changed from the man he once was. He cares for Matt but is careful to guard his feelings and not give away too much. And bravo to Matt for his patience and understanding. He reminds me a little of the way Mark Slate is usualy written..live for today. This is a great story and I'm hoping there is just a little more where Matt must give Illya his space and still keep thier friendship and new business partnership intact, before Rocky comes into his life. Nicely done Charlie.

Ah, back story on Matt and Illya. I love it!! I have never liked to read about either of the boys with someone else, but you make me so happy that Illya had someone to care about him while he was waiting for Napoleon to find him again. I like that you make it clear that Illya doesn't love Matt - or anyone else - except Napoleon, but it's obvious that he isn't just using Matt either - that he really cares about him. Have I told you lately that you are the best writer in the world?

This is a nice bit of backstory on Matt. I like how their relationship evolved. I like that Matt knew his role and accepted it.
